Grand Temoin of 39th National Sort Film Festival in Drama
She was born in Rafina, in 1959. In 1981 she received her Law degree from the University of Athens. Subsequently, she studied Film Direction at the Hellenic Film & Television School Stavrakos and received a special scholarship from the Department of Communication and Mass Media, in the Division of Political Sciences of the University of Athens, where she completed her doctoral thesis on matters of Greek Post-War Cinema, in 1999. In 1995 she was invited as a Visiting Scientist at the State University of Ohio, USA.
Since 2000 she has been teaching Film, Cultural Analysis and Communication at the Universities of Athens, Crete and Thessaloniki. She is also a scientific advisor at the postgraduate program of Cultural Studies of the Department of Communication and Mass Media at the University of Athens.
Moreover, she has worked with the Greek Office of the European Media Program on the promotion of the audiovisual production Media Desk Hellas, the Greek Film Archives, the Audiovisual Institute and the International Short Film Festival in Drama. In her capacity as scientific advisor at the Inter-disciplinary Program in Gender and Equality Studies at the University of Athens, she has focused on developing the importance of gender in cultural and film narration analysis, as part of her broader involvement with Film Theory and History.
Among others, she has published a book entitled “Greek Cinema 1950-67. Popular memory and ideology”, published by Finatec, Athens, 2001 and University Studio Press, Thessaloniki, 2007. She edited the Greek edition of Janet McCabe’s book “Writing the woman into cinema”, published by Patakis, 2009. She has also published numerous articles in scientific journals, compendiums and the Press.
